Lecturer of Department of Social Anthropology of Cambridge University Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov delivered open lectures at TSU titled ‘Social Anthropology: Introduction’. TSU TV correspondents held a conversation with Nikolai about who a modern anthropologist is, and what the difference between anthropology in Russia and abroad is.

On October 18, 2014, formerly resident of Tomsk and currently Princeton University Professor Serguei Oushakine appeared on the TV2 channel programme ‘Chas Pik Subbota’. He arrived in Tomsk to participate in a Tomsk State University conference held last week. Professor Oushakine was invited as a key speaker to deliver his talk on ‘The issues of identity and social adaptation in history and modernity’ and told about what social anthropology is and how one can study people living today and the way they organize their life.

On October 16, 2014, in the ‘Universitetskiy Prospect’ (*University Avenue) section of the TV2 programme ‘Mesto vstrechi’ (*Meeting point) there was a report broadcast dedicated to the international conference themed ‘Man in a Changing World’ organized by the Laboratory for Social and Anthropological Research and held at Tomsk State University.  

On October 15, 2014, Irkutsk State University Professor Victor Dyatlov spoke on the ‘Chas Pik’ programme about contemporary migration issues, migration policy of the state, and some aspects of Chinese migration.

On September 18, 2014, on the TV2 channel’s ‘Chas Pik’ programme, Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov, research fellow and lecturer at Cambridge University and leading researcher at the TSU Laboratory for Social and Anthropological Research presented his book ‘The topography of happiness: ethnographic contours of modernity’ dedicated to happiness as a universal cultural category.

On May 12-15, 2014, there were a number of open lectures held at TSU on the topic of ‘Expert knowledge in politics and international relations’. They were given by senior research fellow of University of Sheffield’s Department of Political Studies Oleg Korneev. On the ‘Chas Pik Subbota’ (*Saturday Rush Hour) programme research fellow and lecturer at the Cambridge University Department of Social Anthropology (UK) Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov told about areas of his research that include such topics as ethnography of the state, anthropology of empire, image of the enemy, and the topography of happiness in the public consciousness.

Head of the research project ‘Man in a Changing World. Identity and Social Adaptation: Past and Present’ Professor Dmitry Funk gave an interview on the TV2 channel’s programme ‘Chas Pik’ (*Rush Hour) themed ‘The urban life of indigenous peoples’.

Oleg Oberemko, a well-known expert in the field of contemporary sociological methods, gave an interview to the TSU TV. Within a number of research projects Oleg Oberemko studied social changes in science, education, charity and business as well as issues of forced migration and socialization of the population. One of the key aspects of his work is a special understanding of identity.

Established expert in social sciences, Moscow Higher School of Economics lecturer Oleg Oberemko delivered a series of lectures at TSU dedicated to ‘Theories and methods of studying identity’.  During the classes one could learn about what identity is and how to study it.

Professor of Ural Federal University Elena Trubina gave lectures themed ‘Urban theory’ at Tomsk State University. TSU TV correspondents talked with the leading Russian anthropologist and urbanist about cities of the East and West.

TSU TV correspondents spoke with anthropology experts, professors of Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (Russian Academy of Sciences) Dmitry A. Funk and Valentina I. Kharitonova on the topic of ‘Shamanism in the context of globalization’.
