On March 19, 2014, Irina Vlasova, Chief Researcher of the Russian People Department at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Science, Doctor of History, Professor, State Prize laureate, Honored Scientist of Russia, passed away suddenly in her 79th year.
The staff of the TSU Laboratory for Social and Anthropological Research express deepest condolences on the death of Irina Vlasova, an outstanding scholar in history and culture of the Russian people. Her copyright and collective works, published under her editorship, first of all “The Russians”, part of the series “Peoples and Cultures”, widely known in Russia and abroad, are widely used in the university curriculum for anthropologists and ethnologists. As an editor, she managed to save the oldest journal on ethnography “Ethnographic Review” in tough times for Russian ethnography. Loving memory of our colleague will be kept in the hearts of everyone who knew her personally, and those generations of scholars yet to discover the world of Russian culture through her brilliant books and publications.
