Urban Theory

November 13-19, Elena Trubina, leading Russian expert, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Social Philosophy at the B. Yeltsin Ural Federal University will deliver a course of lectures on Urban Theory at the TSU Laboratory for Social and Anthropological Research.

Course objective: review the fundamentals of urban studies, study and critically analyze contemporary urban theories and apply them in studying urban functioning and development practices in Eastern Europe.

The course is distinguished by its focus on comparative approach: comparing trends of urban life in Western countries with similar trends in Eastern Europe, developed within various schools and theories.

The course is designed for those interested in social theory, humanitarian geography, urban anthropology, and also for students and lecturers of various subjects and a wider audience.

Faculty and students have the opportunity to take this course as a 14-hour professional training.
